I’m not saying @omandhb readers are the most interesting people in journalism…

Actually, I am. And that’s why I’ve devoted this issue to their feedback:

@lesanto Yes, I was talking to @charlotteahenry about this for her podcast yesterday. The SEO “industry” doesn’t want to let go of keywords, simply because they can see you so many expensive keyword research tools.

@Cameron_W_Clark @petren There’s also a tendency towards herd mentality - once three or four pubs start taking it seriously, more and more people flock to the platform, even if they don’t really know exactly why they’re there or what they want out of it…

Ivory has won promotion to my iPad dock… tapbots.com/ivory/ t.co/Nft5aGMDc…

So, this post proved more controversial than I expected. I expected pushback on my warning about TikTok. What I didn’t expect was how attached some people are to their spreadsheets of SEO keywords… onemanandhisblog.com/2023/01/four-t…

@Cameron_W_Clark @petren The risk of China invading Taiwan is serious enough that invasion scenarios are being war gamed by the involved powers, so the risk of an abrupt curtailment of the platform is not negligible.

@Cameron_W_Clark @petren … but if you’re going to embrace this platform, you need to (a) do it in a way that won’t have a negative impact if it goes away abruptly and (b) that does everything it can to transfer mediated relationships with readers to direct ones.

@Cameron_W_Clark @petren Deeply intentionally. We’re riding the normal ignore and mock to embrace cycle, but I think people are sticking their heads in the sand over the political situation around the platform. As you know, I’m normally all for embracing new platforms…

Nice to see more EV charging infrastructure going in, just around the corner from my house. t.co/5iKsTvAOQ…

Wow. I saw Blake’s 7 was trending, and was worried for a moment they’d all been shot by the Federation, apart from Blake, who was shot by Avon.

phew

@wildpark Midjourney.

HomePod and AppleTV updates are out this evening.

Ivory from Tapbots is now on the App Store. Trying it out now for my Mastodon needs… apps.apple.com/gb/app/ivory-f…

@MarcSettle I haven’t tried two iPhones, but I’ve happily had the iPhone providing the webcam signal, and an iPad being used for whiteboard sketching on courses.

@MarcSettle Continuity Cam is good enough that I’ve pretty much only used my iPhone as my webcam since I upgraded. I’ve not tried DesView yet.

I’ve just seen the tagline for @UnffclPrtnr: “Overthinking the sports business, for money”, and my only reaction is: twitter.com/UnffclPrtnr/st… t.co/4B1OfZ9PP…

Today’s newsletter just went out — you can find out why the dip in the number of new podcasts being produced is probably a sign of a healthy and established ecosystem…

@MarcSettle I think the problem is that even if he does, the app makers won’t trust him or the platform - so are disincentivised from keeping development going.

I can’t quite bring myself to delete my last copy of Twitterific. I’ll do it soon, but it still saddens me. The final end of an era that once brought me great joy.

Point 1 is specifically for the amusement of @sarahjebner

By “open”, I mean “one”, of course. I could try to pretend it was a Witty and Clever Pun on open rates, but no, it’s just a typo.

Here’s the four things you need to let go of in 2023 — and open you’ll be forced to, if you like it or not.
