This is the setup for a Doctor Who episode, surely. twitter.com/MJCarty/status…

Still going to go an unfollow everyone not opening their @omandhb emails, tho’.

😢😉

I am enjoying @ghost’s new email analytics in its beta of its membership features. Just enough data to be useful and actionable, without tipping over into creepy.

@RoryBrown Glenigan! That takes me back to my first professional job on Publican (long merged into @morningad).

@Marmarmartin Journalist for a father, geneticist for a mother. She’s getting it from both sides! :-)

Listening to my daughter’s Zoom singing lesson is making me very proud and a bit emotional. As someone who can’t carry a tune in a bucket, hearing her blasting out songs with incredible precision and confidence is quite something.

My daughters demanded evidence that the letter to Father Christmas was actually posted… t.co/z6588AWij…

@lararhiannonw People without children, I’m guessing…

@JessicaGottlieb @JayCoDon @SubstackInc 🤷🏼

To be fair, the portability out of Substack is pretty good right now. But I’ve been burnt enough in the past to be very wary of potentially locking my data into a VC-backed product.

His choice of @tryPico is interesting — and it looks like a good tool for membership. But I do wish he’d linked the various components he’s using - trying to find the right Pico amongst the various other things called that was a pain.

Here it is: trypico.com

Why moved @JayCoDon moved A Media Operator off @SubstackInc: “I had reached the point where the tail was wagging the dog… the tool was dictating my business.”

Tools matter.

Let’s see more mainstream journalists amplifying expert voices from trade publications. It deepens the public’s perception of journalism. onemanandhisblog.com/2020/12/social…

Enjoy that cup of joe while you can…

This is interesting, and ties in with what immunologists I know have been saying for a while: disinfecting surfaces is basically COVID theatre, and wasting money we should be using on countering aerosol spread. washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/…

@CharlieBeckett Yup, that’s the point I was trying to express as concisely for myself as I could: I’ve been trying to think about directions the journalism conversation needs to go, but hasn’t been. I liked that piece: I’ve put it aside for reread at my coffee break, when I grant myself one. :-)

There’s plenty of discussion of journalism business models. There’s some discussion about emergent journalistic forms. There’s rarely any deep connection between these two discussions.

And that’s why so much of the industry is still struggling.

@smartfilming Well, personally still at it after 19 years, but there are certainly fewer of us around than there used to be.

@corinne_podger I’ve had my head down working all day - but as I barely use any Google services, I didn’t really notice.

Looks like Dominic Cummings has a new gig in the Lego Brawls app, after the whole No.10 thing didn’t work out. t.co/WDi4lYSpU…

I’m not saying we’re deep in middle age, but there is considerable excitement in this household about the arrival of a new washing machine tomorrow.

@georginaterry My wife does, in fact, have a PhD, and I routinely call her “Dr T.”, because I’m fond of being alive.
