@djknowles22 Thanks, David.
@erika_marzano Thanks for sharing the piece! Hope all is well with you.
And for those who care, here’s my take on what we should be watching for in the #TwitterLayoffs
Yes, there’s some anger in this. But also some serious discussion of the signs we should be looking for in how Twitter’s relationship with journalists is changing.
As always, the best way to keep up with me is to sign up for the free tier emails from @omandhb: onemanandhisblog.com/#/portal/signu…
The nature of my work means I can’t leave fully, but I’m certainly less interested in building value for someone who does this to people in such a brutal way. So, expect a bit less of me here. t.co/2erIjpoYI…
It’s easy to get wrapped up in the business side of the Twitter drama, but watching people I know, people who are friends, people who I’ve taught, get laid off from Twitter this morning is making it very hard for me to see much of a future for me on the bird app.
Dropping a link to @kevglobal’s Revue newsletter into my latest @omandhb post, and realising that link will probably break before the year is out…
@EstherKeziaT @mediavoicespod Every single past member of the #interhacktives is now going “No! Don’t get him started on that again.” t.co/k2GLvUFbV…
@EstherKeziaT @mediavoicespod Always always ALWAYS have an exit plan is my motto. I know exactly how I’d exit Ghost if I ever felt I needed to, and where I’d go. Having managed a couple of platform transitions back in my in-house days, I carry the scars of people not planning for an exit.
@sarahjebner Been looking at this. @SubstackInc have an API-based imported from Revue, @ghost are working on improving their import and @beehiiv seem to have a robust importer, so there are exit paths for people, although the Twitter integration will be a loss for growth.
@kevglobal @Ghost (And yes, @omandhb is on the managed ghost(pro) service. I only self-host my (many) side-projects)
@kevglobal @Ghost I feel that - we just had to clear a malware infection on one of the student WordPress sites. That said, with no plugins in the WP sense, and a generally smaller attack surface, so far the Ghost-specific security issues have been negligible.
This shouldn’t be a surprise, but some hacks do look down their nose at this kind of service journalism.

@kevglobal @Ghost (And pretty easy to self-host if you’re not afraid of a little light SSH)
@EstherKeziaT @mediavoicespod Here you go: twitter.com/CaseyNewton/st…
@kevglobal Well, I’m very happy with @ghost and I know they’re poking at improving their Revue import.
@EstherKeziaT @mediavoicespod Not confirmed but Casey Newton’s sources are normally pretty good.
Bet @MattNavarra is glad he moved to @beehiiv. Seems prescient now!
This would be a great time for @ghost to improve their Revue import, too…
Oh, and the @mediavoicespod team, of course.
I suspect @kevglobal will be looking at Substack’s Revue import API in the near future…
Well, I suppose the good thing about the reports that Revue (owned by Twitter) will be gone by the end of the year, dead by order of Musk, is that I now have licence to officially abandon my neglected newsletter there…

Wow, the @SubstackInc Chat app notifications are getting really annoying really fast.
