Sorry to miss @risj_oxford‘s #DNR22 launch this morning — but client work has to take priority. It is, of course, an excellent and compelling piece of work - even if it makes difficult reading for the industry.

I’m nowhere near as surprised as some by the key findings — but let’s hope that this will be a catalyst for some serious re-evaluation of how we report. The industry has a habit of blaming “digital” or “the platforms” for our woes. But this one is squarely on us.

I have some thoughts in the works on it, but wasn’t able to get them finished before the embargo dropped. And in particular on news avoidance, and it’s something I’ve been working on and thinking about for some years.

Aiming to publish on Friday.

Oh, no. Julee Cruise Has Died, Aged 65. The Twin Peaks soundtrack was the backdrop to my uni years, and Falling is still a go-to track for me in particular moods. thequietus.com/articles/31652…

I noted this, too, and have been surprised by the lack of discussion. twitter.com/charlotteahenr…

@Bill_Bowkett @InQuireMedia_ @missmollyhope @turnmyswagguon @Meggy_Warwick @JamesAFTV @EllieFielding That is a glorious and indeed faintly terrifying image.

Compelling read from ⁦@MarisaKabas⁩. It’s easy to get distracted by the discussion over appropriate behaviour on social media, but you have to consider the underlying conditions that led to that behaviour. The two are not separate. thehandbasket.substack.com/p/on-being-a-w…

@niltiac @freecloud FWIW, both my primary school age daughters have iPads, but heavily locked down and controlled. I’m happy for them to have them, because they are a reality of modern life. And so helping them learn good habits around them now seems like a valuable thing to do.

@liv_burney Yes. I’ve often thought that one of the major skills of a journalist is to be able to feel and enjoy another’s passion for a subject, while not allowing yourself to be swept up by it uncritically.

@horton_official In the unlikely event I’m ever anywhere near government, plastic grass and disposable BBQs are high on my hit list.

@ZachHonig @iroughol I also went electric earlier this year, and every time I drive past a petrol station I feel good about it.

I love this light. Wouldn’t fit in our house, but looks great in this pub. t.co/F2Xaw68C9…
