@chrismoranuk @benwhitelaw Yes, this was the point I was trying to make (and possibly failing) towards the end, about the culture that’s needed to support such a change. And the point I probably should have made is that once you have such a culture, metrics just inform discussions rather than drive it.

@JohnGeeMcCarthy Funnily enough, I mentioned that as a less invidious approach: onemanandhisblog.com/2021/03/the-te…

@JohnGeeMcCarthy Measuring and rewarding on subscriber conversion and retention is a world away from measuring raw traffic, for exactly the reason you give. I mean, The Telegraph could still screw this up royally, but the Twitter discussion completely lacks any nuance about that actual proposal.

@JohnGeeMcCarthy Except… that’s not actually what the quotes from the email says. It specifies that “those who attract and retain the most subscribers should be the most handsomely paid.” There’s not direct quote that attributes traffic.

@JohnGeeMcCarthy Those lovely photos made me acutely nostalgic for growing up in Scotland. Glad you got to see your nephew. Here’s to many more trips.

@EllieLevenson True fact: that “kitchen tool” at the end of the article is actually from a Play-Doh set. I know this for a fact, as a friend bought that very set for one of my daughters, and has been enduring ribbing about it for years since.

New set of dates for this course: if you want to make newsletters a central plank of your newsroom or publication’s engagement and growth strategy, this is for you. twitter.com/newsrewired/st…

@fayecwhite Did you try @unbounders? Feels like it’s the sort of thing that would work well on their model.

(You can take this as a commitment to (a) back it and (b) promote the hell out of it, if you do go back to that idea.)

Possibly because it’s endemic in some newsrooms. Big egos, long working hours and an adrenaline-fuelled culture make it too easy for some people to step way, way, way over the line. wan-ifra.org/2021/03/why-is…

Really looking forward to welcoming back former @Interhacktives @BethAshton and @pavan_mahal (virtually) to talk to the Audience Strategy students this afternoon @cityjournalism

@iroughol I am definitely not aware that it currently shows me getting my first jab some time in April or early May, and that that date has crept forwards slightly in recents weeks. Nope.

@SophieWarnes You missed arguments about cycles lanes, and people asking which is the best local curry house.
