@JournoPeter @TristanCorkPost @alex_captain Well, that’s been a problem since day two of the internet! But there are plenty of well-established community management principles for dealing with them, even if they eventually come down to “blocking whack-a-mole” if all else fails.

@TristanCorkPost @alex_captain No, I read that story myself on the day it was published, and again befor discussions it with students. However, there was a delay between reading it and writing that piece of quite some time, so it might have slipped my mind. If so, apologies.

@TristanCorkPost @alex_captain Always happy to correct - when I’m not wrangling children!

The Goodies helped define my humour and view of the world as a child. This makes me unspeakably sad:

Tim Brooke-Taylor dies at 79 after contracting coronavirus, agent says theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/a…

@sabuhi_gard @journalismnews Because I have a family to feed, and the organisers need to make a living. None of us are getting rich training journalists, believe you me. Especially at the moment.

I’m sorry you don’t think it is worth the money - but if we were charging any less it would be unsustainable.

Tonight I am transcoding an Easter Service video, produced remotely by multiple local households, for best playback on Facebook. It’s already on YouTube.

And given the comfort it will bring to people in 12 weeks of self-isolation, this is time well-spent.

Prepping a video for the local church. Not how I expected to be using this kit… t.co/Dq84k8hng…

The worst bit of being a media analyst is that you have to analyse media.

And this is what you become. twitter.com/baekdal/status…

@lukewbarratt Lawn mowing counts as permitted exercise you know.

Just sayin’.

😉

@IanDouglas That does seem like a baffling choice.

Taking a break in the garden with a nice cup of coffee and @lucyjones’s new book Losing Eden: why our minds need the wild. The garden isn’t very wild. But it does what it needs to. t.co/9Zdk1EbSl…

@chrismsutcliffe I watched that as a kid when it came out originally. I think it would be fair to say that it blew my tiny mind in some very odd ways.

Here’s the big question on my mind: how does journalism survive the Covid-19 crisis?

And I mean “journalism” not “news” - because there’s a whole lot of value we’ve under-estimated in under-threat B2B and consumer titles, too… onemanandhisblog.com/2020/04/how-do…

The subs levels are slightly down - I’m picking up non-journalists and losing journalists. Which is interesting. I wonder if the huge traffic spikes to virus-related content are blinding some to the need for other reporting as well. Are we too monomaniacal in our focus? (4/6)

Yes, big jump from losing a few subs. But I wonder if there’s something in the way we reach out to our communities (or don’t) in this time that will have an impact on sustainability once this traffic spike passes? Something to explore. (5/6)

Obviously, good reporting about the crisis is critical. But people can’t spend all day, everyday reading about it. So what else should we be helping with? (6/6)

(The newsletter is here, BTW: engagedreadingtime.com)

We journalists are a curious bunch - and less homogenous than our critics would think. There are certainly those who are news-obsessed and want to focus obsessively on that. And there are those whose interests are different - more leisurely, sometimes more in depth. (1/6)

I’ve been reminded of that by repurposing my newsletter. I’ve not been able to focus on the #coronavirus crisis on the same ways others do - and I need to actively read and think about other things, otherwise I suffer from anxiety spikes. (2/6)

(The fact that I’m one of those whose income is under threat is certainly part of that - not much call for face-to-face training right now!) And so, I need to read more things that aren’t about #COVIDー19. And I decided to share three of them a day. (3/6)
