@othello Excellent use of “bobbins” there. 👌🏻

Could the coronavirus be a globalisation inflection point?

Maybe. If we want it to be. nextconf.eu/2020/03/corona…

I have managed quarter of a century as a journalist without hearing the phrase “fronted adverbial”. But now I am a parent of a primary school child, it is imperative I know it, apparently.

@SubstackInc @mccannatron I’m having exactly the same problem. No unusual characters - any email address I try fails with the same message.

@kate_day Congratulations, Executive Editor! Keep up (more of) the good work.

😲 Bet you some people are going to be “outed” as having an adult content side hustle through this. twitter.com/MattNavarra/st…

Children in school. Bird food topped up. Dishwasher on. Coffee made.

Dammit. It’s time to do some work.

@mattpointblank @benwhitelaw And certainly I’d have given them right to reply.

@mattpointblank @benwhitelaw To be fair, I don’t know the background. But before I’d do something like this, I’d spend a while warning the commenting community that abuse of this sort was unwarranted. It also depends if these people are regular commenters, or drive-bys who just turned up to mouth abuse.

@benwhitelaw @mattpointblank I was having similar thoughts. It’s a strategy that has appeal, especially within the journalism bubble, but I wonder about the long-term impact within the community.

@p_j_chappell I’m suddenly very glad that my wife is a US citizen…

@chrismsutcliffe My wife did her phd in immunology. And her response is just a more expert version of the above. The big unknown is the level of asymptomatic infected people.

@wordsallowed @cityshortcourse Oh, it’ll be back. Tech never gets uninvented. And travel still broadens the mind. But there’s shed loads of unnecessary business travel, and I suspect a lot of companies — and people — will twig that in the coming months.

@wordsallowed Not exactly - I know places two hours’ flight away better than I know places 10 minutes drive away. Or a short hop on the train. I was just musing on the balance of local and global focus in my own life, and where it might be out of whack.

I do wonder if the double-whammy of the climate crisis and the coronavirus might make us think a little harder about how and why we travel - and maybe help us enjoy digital’s ability to keep us globally connected while relishing where we live, too.
