Subscribers to my newsletter knew about this weeks ago… engagedreadingtime.com #hhldn twitter.com/Emmamagoodman/…

@ChuckWendig That’s 10 years of growth in beard skills right there.

Hurrah. Retweeting @moorehn has led to me discovering @kellyfincham’s research, which is my reading sorted for the next few days. Finally a positive thing in a ropey evening.

This is a big deal. Twitter has a loooooooooong way to go to deal with its abuse problem. But this is a step in the right direction. twitter.com/moorehn/status…

@OliverMilne You’re right TBH. And I was the right age for the height of the alleged “battle” between the two.

Oh, ffs. @twitter finally shows me this #Hhldn tweet three hours after I got turned away from the event. Insult to injury…. This is why you shouldn’t rely on an algorithmic timeline for your communications ⁦@HacksHackersLDN⁩. Email had its place. t.co/OOypxzXpz…

@andrew_grantham I’m old, clearly. And grumpy. Ergo: t.co/RiJAoonXc…

@ziadramley judging you on choosing sword

And to prove that bad things go in threes, made a schoolboy error in a Facebook Story earlier… 😂 t.co/nnRho0Umu…

Fingers crossed that I am on the final stage of a difficult evening, and will be home for a whisky and bed within the hour. Literally my entire evening wasted on queuing and travelling. t.co/cb9UaSyR1…

@cassiewerber @arhomberg And, to be fair, I’m much more of an irregular these day - and have been since my children arrived, and I went part time. That’s what makes this such an issue. I have to make a special effort to get there - my wife had to rearrange things to allow me to attend.

And before anyone says “there’s one right there - it’s going the wrong way.”

Getting home is proving to be rather tricky this evening. Train line blocked. Buses elusive. t.co/UjGn8lLef…

@cassiewerber @arhomberg Yeah, well, it’s got worse. My Trainline home is blocked and now I am in Brighton trying to find a bus to Shoreham. This is not how I planned my evening to be…

@cassiewerber @arhomberg As I recall, the people who left departed because they were told the event was already underway and they didn’t want to wait any longer, not that there was no chance of getting in.

@cassiewerber @arhomberg I have to say - I’m struggling to reconcile that version of with what I experienced downstairs. I was only three people behind the last group that got in naturally. We were still being told by the desk staff to hang on.

@cassiewerber @arhomberg @PolisLSE Maybe a number of free student tickets with proof of status, though. My #interhacktives students have always got good value from the events down the years.

@cassiewerber @arhomberg @PolisLSE For me: yes. I would genuinely much rather pay and know I would get in, than gamble with my time in this way. And I’m self-employed, so it would be coming straight out of my own pocket. Nobody to expense it to but myself.

@arhomberg @cassiewerber This is probably why you got such an angry reaction when you came down @cassiewerber - for many of us it was our first experience of some #hhldn attendees being more equal than others.

@arhomberg @cassiewerber It was happening for a while after the line stopped. People were being pulled out of line as special guests and ushered upstairs. They actually ran after one person who had left in disgust, to take her upstairs.

@arhomberg I’ve just realised - this means that you knew before I did. That the people who got into #hhldn were told we were going to be turned away at least half an hour before we were! 🤯

@cassiewerber @arhomberg And honestly, the fact that people were being waved through as “special guests” (NOT speakers) after the rest had been told to wait to see if there was room made if feel like, if there is a small, tight community - we aren’t in it.

@cassiewerber @arhomberg I suspect that tonight may have proved that maintaining a small, tight community is now a forlorn hope.
