@arhomberg I’ve been attending #Hhldn since 2011 - onemanandhisblog.com/2011/08/sex_li… - and while everything you say has become true over the years, this is the first time I’ve ever been turned away.

@fedecherubini And anything that deprived me of being home for my daughters’ bedtime for no benefit tends to make me mad. Sorry for the rant. 😉 The fact some people were still being let in as “special guests” (not speakers) after the rest of us were refused really soured the mood, I think.

Despite all my rage I am still a bit of a fan of this app for the iPad. twitter.com/jjenna/status/…

@FraZaffarano Go on, rub it in. 😢😉

5/ (Sorry for the long gap in that thread - apparently a couple of tweets failed to send before I went into the underground)

@fedecherubini If that’s true I didn’t get that communication. If I had, I would have probably headed straight home after finishing my client workshop rather than risk wasting the evening. Which is even more painful in a way - that’s a double communication failure!

4/ I’m not sure how you fix it, but I’m going to be wary of (trying to) attend again. I’m a middle-aged, self-employed, time-poor father of two young children, and to effectively lose a precious evening because of poor communication is almost viscerally painful.

3/ In the end, a fair number of people who did the right thing were left deprived of a chunk of time and, in some cases, money, because other people book tickets and fail to turn up to #hhldn without consequence (which is why they over-book). The wrong people suffered.

2/ at least some of the people who got turned away from the #hhldn event were out-ofLondon self-employed with no employer to recharge the travel costs from. Ouch. That hurts. That was nearly me - but luckily some client work dropped into my lap for today.

@arhomberg I must have been just behind you then, as I walked in the doors at just before 6.30.

I’ve been a supporter of #hhldn since the very earliest days in the pub - but the lack of communication and blatant disrespect for people’s time have rather soured the experience for me.

So, turned away from #Hhldn after being left downstairs with little information for over an hour. Many of the people who were turned away with me had travelled significant distances to be there.

Absolute scenes downstairs at #hhldn with a couple of dozen people with tickets being denied entrance.

I was initially excited when I found this site for Sussex bloggers, because it felt very like the sort of thing we did in the early 2000s. And then I saw this:
