Hey, #interhacktives - I know you’re in post-portfolio mode, but digging into this (and more importantly, the report it’s based on), will help you out for next term: onemanandhisblog.com/2019/01/media-…

@kfsone @jamesrgrinter As you have illustrated well, those consequences are hard to deal with - but Facebook has only three choices: stop trying to be global; or address those consequences; or be forced to by legislation. Reading a report right now that predicts the last of those.

@kfsone @jamesrgrinter Yeah, journalists get killed doing their jobs in those countries all the time. Kind of aware of that. 🙂 I’m not ignoring anything. I’m just saying that, right now, Facebook is reaping the benefits of global scale without dealing effectively with the consequences (1/2)

@kfsone @jamesrgrinter That’s kinda ironic - because that last sentence is exactly the Facebook cultural problem I was highlighting. It’s not just about the product as a single platform, it’s about understanding the cultural context it is used - and misused - in.

Are we ready to ban anyone who had an experimental time in their teens or 20s from public life? omhb.eu/2sijQuM

@SarahMarshall I wonder if anyone can - they’re such moving targets.

Today, I find myself wondering how my Facebook experience would change if I pared my number of friends down to around Dunbar’s number?

We can’t let Facebook continue to dodge the responsibility of being a truly global player: omhb.eu/2CWb8Zk

@IvorCrotty Oh, I think he’s very much the old model. Social Media as broadcast.

I have finally learned to write algorithm without having to look up the spelling. Yay.

What will the next generation of social media-savvy politicians look like? And are we culturally ready for them? link.medium.com/WVBh6ZLWkT

Could you learn from China’s profitable podcasting model? omhb.eu/2CancVc

@JosephStash Yup.

@SarahMarshall It’s interesting - the “repurposing” approach seems to be gaining more traction again after years of “create for each channel”.

@sweena Yes!

The internet has opened up whole new avenues of psychological and sociological research hasn’t it?

@kfsone @jamesrgrinter The company has only a handful of offices outside the US, and often doesn’t have one in the hardest hit areas (Myanmar) - and the diversity really doesn’t extend to the executive team, does it? (2/2)
