@carolynrmorgan @EstherKeziaT Exactly. It’s pretty clear it’s what matters to readers, once you look at the analytics of the vast majority of sites. We tend to treat “journalism" and “news” as synonyms, when actually the latter is a subset of the former.

Just tried a little experiment. As a non-technical journalist, I’ve managed to get a @Ghost membership site up and running on @digitalocean in about 30 minutes, and for a net cost of $13 for a domain name and $5 in monthly hosting.
It’s not going to take many members to cover those costs. This might be a feasible route for laid-off journalists or freelancers whose commissions have dried up to start pulling in a supplementary income.
